This is a brilliant album. It saddens me to hear such critical reviews of an album that combines melodic beauty with incredible experimentation. A lot of the bad reviews seem to stem from the fact that Hawk is in the title therefore it should be a heavy stoner psychadelic music (& this proved that Dave Anderson is an imposter & not living up to Hawkwinds name & was riding on the coattails & selling out). Firstly this is an Amon Duul album for 2 reasons 1. John Weinzierl, is the ace guitarist of Amon Duul 2 and he wanted to continue making music & decamped to England where he reconvened with D.Anderson again (who was the bassist on the 1st 2 A.D.2 albums which includes the ground-breaking double album Yeti). 2. Most of the album derives from older (mid/late 70,s) experimental A.D. 2 material that was either deemed uncommercial or too experimental to be released by their producers. Then John & Dave made additions & most probably did entirely new the 1st track, '1 moments anger is 2 pints of blood 'which is a beautiful melodic 12 minute long track . A title very apt for all you misconstrued critics who expected a heavy Hawkwind album. Open your ears again & give it a proper listen 'Hawk meets Penguin' is a beautifully melodic & experimentally transluscent album that only gets better with each listening. If you want to hear more Hawkwind like A.D. go for 'Die Losung' which also features R. Calvert & there you will truley meet A.D. meets Hawkwind. Also you could add the song Vortex (from the A.D.2 1981 reunion album)to the start of H. meets P. for a top thematic addition) to create a truly exciting experimental and multi faceted/layered rock album. A top album & 1 that made me really appreciate A.D. again after a trio a very disappointing late 70's almost pop albums with only 1/2 the band & the producers pushing for a commercial sound.
