If XXX-rated talk/lyrics offend you, stop reading now and move on. This ain't for you!
If you're not so easily offended and like your music funky all over, then this is a one-of-a-kind record that you'll want to jump all over. I caught Blowfly playing live back in 1991 opening for a shock-rock, punk-funk band called "Dino Lee & the Luv Johnson" and they were great, but Blowfly also won me over. I had to have an album and lucky for me this is the one I picked up. Apart from the overtly sexual and hilarious lyrics, the backing music here is just outstanding funk (one song references members of Fishbone and Red Hot Chili Peppers, so at least one song here may feature one or more members from those bands).
Whoever these players are, they deliver an ultra-tight groove throughout, so while the lyrics are definitely shocking and over-the-top, this is not x-rated rap for sheer shock value with no musicality. Far from it, these are some really killer grooves and arrangements. The goofy "Soul Man" spoof (here done as "Hole Man") missed the mark and there are 1 or 2 others I tend to skip but the bulk of this album is great music and hilarious lyrics. I had to upgrade my vinyl to a CD and I still own it today over 20 years after it came out. So definitely recommended, though I would add that I checked into a few other Blowfly titles and the level of musicianship found on other releases didn't measure up to "The Twisted World of Blowfly". Everything else I've heard was just not as tight as this release; if you listen and mainly like the humorous sexuality in the lyrics, other titles might be worth exploring. If you like the funky grooves behind the lyrics (like me), this is likely the only album of his you will enjoy, but what an album it is!
