Doja Cat further proves why she is a new musical icon once again with the intergalactic (the exhilarating rap foreplay and UFO lit beat of "Need To Know"), luscious (pristine pop gloss and candy floss of "Love To Dream" and fantastically lusty yet self-aware struggle of "You Right" featuring The Weeknd) and supple (the dayglow gleam, ecstatic energy and fired-up flow flex of "Get Into It (Yuh)" which proudly pays homage to the icon and fellow genre-shapeshifting Hip-Hop queen Nicki Minaj and the braggadocios rap excellence of the JID assisted "Options") paradise of Planet Her. Making hits is easy for a artist of Doja Cat's caliber but making hit albums is what makes Doja Cat musically and creatively in her own caliber. Planet Her is cool, cohesive, free-spirited yet intentional and right on time to smash up the summer with the gifts that make Doja's star shine so bright! The album from top to bottom is such a breezy vibe and party with the perfect balance of mellow smoothness and wild fun. Though I really love to hear her take on a track solo, I must admit, Doja's guest list on Planet Her is also cohesive, meaning, each collaboration choice sounds like the sweetest sound of creatively akin artists worlds colliding in complete harmony. Her collaborations with Ariana Grande (on the blushing sugarhigh of "I Don't Do Drugs"), SZA (on the summery disco jam "Kiss Me More") and Eve (on the wavy early 2000's Hip-Hop&B nostalgia of "Tonight") happen to be some of her most exciting musical collaborations so far. Planet Her finds Doja Cat flexing the effortless finesse she has whether she's in full in rabid rap-mode, sweet songbird-mode or fusing the two happily. In other words, this woman is frickin' talented and this album offers a new destination for fans, listeners, critics and herself via sonic spaceship. This album sounds and feels like a fabulous ride, a grand adventure, a musical expedition to the sweetest escape!
