This was and still is a brilliant album in its original 2000 release. The cold, alien, sometimes brittle atmosphere is perfect for the music being delivered. It stands as one of the greatest metal albums ever conceived. While remasters are often a good idea, remixes can be a slippery slope. This revamped/revised version of GDoW is mostly amazing. The drums have an earthier, more natural sound, and you can actually hear the bass lines. These are the two greatest alterations here. They don't necessarily improve the album, but give us an alternate-reality version. Jaime Gomez Arellano didn't an excellent job, and took great care to retain the original's peculiar atmosphere. HOWEVER: "A Bloodsword and a Colder Sun" is totally ruined. Pumping the bass guitar up and shoving the pulsing bed of synth/sample sounds that drive the original was a terrible idea. The song shouldn't have been messed with to this degree. It makes this version of GDoW a frustrating listen, as the rest is beyond reproach. As for the new artwork, it's fine. I prefer the original, but through and through, this is still THE TRUE Mayhem, and perhaps their greatest achievement, eclipsing even the first full-length. Yes, that's right, it's an opinion. Go your own way & FTW.

NM (Near Mint) Appears unplayed and will bear no marks, sleeve scuffs, or scratches.
EX+ (Excellent) May have one or two visible imperfections (i.e. sleeve scuffs, faint scratches, or other superficial marks) that will not affect playback.
VG+ (Very Good+) A few visible imperfections. These may include sleeve scuffs, light scratches, or other superficial marks.
VG (Very Good) Similar imperfections found on VG+ records but in slightly greater numbers. Records graded VG and above will typically not have any scratches that are deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.
VG- (Very Good-) A number of visible imperfections; the presence of a considerable number of light scratches will force a VG- grade, as will the presence of significant isolated defects such as scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.
G (Good) Record can be played without skipping, but will have significant surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear. G+ and G- are used to indicate stronger and weaker copies within this range.
