Although this was Michael Franks' second album ( he released the lesser known "Previously Unavailable" in 1973), "The Art Of Tea" album truly jump started Franks' career as a pop/jazz vocalist. Produced by Tommy LiPuma (well known for his work with Miles Davis, George Benson, & Diana Krall), this cd has all the makings of what true singing & songwriting are all about. What I really love about this album is the range of styles on each track. Franks can go from swing ("Jive", "Popsicle Toes") to R&B ("Monkey See-Monkey Do") to a pop-orientated ballad ("I Don't Know Why I'm So Happy I'm Sad") all within one album. Maybe there are a few exceptions, but you don't find range like that in today's cd's. His voice can be as soothing as an enviornmental cd, & that's a compliment. If you like this one, definetely check out "Sleeping Gypsy" (my personal favorite), "Burchfield Nines" (another favorite), "Tiger In The Rain", & "One Bad Habit". In closing, you can't go wrong with any of Michael Franks' cd's. But all of his 70's albums are perfect for those relaxing moments alone, or with someone special.

VG+ (Very Good+) A few visible imperfections. These may include sleeve scuffs, light scratches, or other superficial marks.

VG- (Very Good-) A number of visible imperfections; the presence of a considerable number of light scratches will force a VG- grade, as will the presence of significant isolated defects such as scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.
G (Good) Record can be played without skipping, but will have significant surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear. G+ and G- are used to indicate stronger and weaker copies within this range.
