Desolation Boulevard is the third studio album by the British glam rock band Sweet, originally released in the United Kingdom in November 1974. Two noticeably different versions of the album were released: one by RCA Records in Europe, and another by Capitol Records in the United States, Canada and Japan.
"Ballroom Blitz... Forget about it! Finally plunked down the cash to get this and I can't even tell you how surprising it was to give it a listen. The depth of their songs is mind blowing. This album feels like a rock opera in spots. Lyrically all over the place and yet intelligent (pay attention, because there's a lot going on in those lyrics). As far as playing goes, there isn't a track on here that doesn't rock all the way down to 8852 Sunset Boulevard (as the cover suggests). There are snippets of lyric that Nikki Sixx straight ripped off for Motley Crue and I guess that's an homage to how cool this album is. The riff in Set Me Free borders on thrash. Note that all songs written for side one (Songs 1-5) were written by Chapman/Chinn who were the hit makers at the time and the second side (song 6-10) were all straight Sweet compositions. Recorded in a mere 6 days, Desolation Boulevard is a great snapshot of the glamminess of the late 60's and early 70's. Bowie. Iggy. Mott. T. Rex. Take a ride with (The) Sweet and enjoy all the hoopla and the grandiose orchestrations and the ditzy, glitzy androgynous awesomeness of the glam rock era!"
