Toto IV is the fourth studio album by American pop and rock band Toto released in the spring of 1982 by Columbia Records.
"Let's face it; the band Toto often stirs up some negative reactions among serious music people. I believe that I've always had a very broad musical appreciation and for the most part I like a variety of musical forms and genres. If it's good, it's good. The knock on Toto for being over commercialized, slick, pop music band is probably justified for the most part. And, they have put out some very mediocre and even bad music over the years. But, back in 1982 they created a record that while it's admittedly radio friendly pop music; it's still high quality. First and foremost, Toto was comprised of some very well respected musicians of that era. Jeff and Steve Pocaro, David Paich, Bobby Kimball, David Hungate and Steve Lukather are all excellent at what they do. Secondly, they are very good song writers; these are not cover songs. Instrumentation is great and the vocals are first rate considering four of them share duties. The best known songs are "Rosanna" "Africa" and "I'll Be Over You"; all of them were radio hits. But, the lesser known songs are also solid pop-rock numbers that help make this a completely satisfying album. I have a fifteen year old son who seems to identify with 80's music. He's found the song "Good For You" to be one of his favorites and it's always on his iPod. I have to admit it's an upbeat, catchy tune that you find yourself singing at some point later in the day. None of the music contained here is complicated or thought provoking just songs about relationships done in a mostly positive and high quality way. With the last twenty years of music being often focused on angst and negativity; it's a nice break to go back to some lighter upbeat stuff like this."
